Try These Ancient Constipation Cures
Here are some very important ancient constipation cures, but first stop taking any over-the-counter laxative. You do not have to suffer anymore: - Water was one of the most easiest and effective constipation cures discovered by Bavarian Sebastien Kneipp, a renowned herbalist and hydrotherapist.
He said to drink 2 glasses of cold water every morning on rising. Read
benefits of drinking water daily.
The cold water starts peristalsis which is the movement of the digestive system that propels matter through it. You can also also add honey to the water. First add a tablespoon of warm water to the honey to dissolve it, then add cold water. - Immediately start adding fiber, such as oatmeal - to prevent constipation eat oatmeal each morning. You can add raisins, apple and maple syrup - yum. Also add plenty of fruits and vegetables to your diet. Early Swiss herbalists believed that figs were effective. Figs are a good natural medicine - if you have chronic constipation, eat 1 or 2 dried figs each morningon an empty stomach.
- Increase your daily consumption of liquids such as water, a nineteenth century remedy from Germany is to drink 8 glasses of water per day along with cleansing juice and herbal teas.
- Drink commercially-prepared Aloe juice in small quantities, following directions on the package. Aloe is an ancient plant used for both internal and external healing - externally for skin bruises and scars, internally as a powerful purgative.
- Cloves were used by the Dutch as one of their constipation cures.
Directions: Gently bruise 6 cloves to release essential oils to 2 tablespoons of hot water in a saucepan and simmer for about a minute. Add cold water to cover and steep for an additional 15 minutes. Strain and drink. Prepare this each morning. - Rice and ground walnuts were used by traditional Chinese healers for chronic constipation.
Directions: Each day prepare 8 ounces of rice and 12 walnuts. Soak the rice over night. the next morning, bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil, throw in the walnuts and simmer for a few minutes. Grind the walnuts in a blender, add the rice and rice water. Puree. Take out of the blender, add a pinch or 2 of maple syrup and some water. Simmer the preparation until the walnut-rice mixture becomes sticky. - Ancient Greek doctors used the Arab senna plant as one of their constipation cures, it was one of the most powerful laxatives among their plant medicines. A standard senna concentrate is available in an over-the-counter product under the name of Senokot. Just follow the direction on the package.
- Hawaiians used over 100 native plants to restore health and spirit among their people. Medicine healers had to spend 15 years in apprenticeship. An excellent Hawaiian constipation treatment involves watermelon pulp.
Directions: For a watermelon fast to cleanse the body of waste materials, try eating small chunks of red watermelon all through the day. - Last but not least is one of the Ukrainian constipation cures that my mother used - sauerkraut (Kapusta in Ukrainian. She made it all the time in huge barrels. Kapusta was a part of our daily diet).
Apparently, Chinese doctors also prescribed fermented cabbage, saying that if you ate it twice a day, it would produce normal bowel movements in a month. ( Sauerkraut, works for me immediately.) Directions: Drain and reserve the liquid from a jar of sauerkraut (recommend the Polish version). Add an equal amount of water to the liquid and drink it. As a dish, I often fry onions and garlic mixed with sauerkraut and simmer with Polish sausage (Kilbassa). It is yummy! Caution. Do not use it if you are sensitive to salt or have high blood pressure.
A Few More Constipation CuresIf you have a juicer, drinking beet juice regularly will help relieve chronic constipation. The cellulose content helps to ease bowel movements. Nutritionally, beets are loaded with vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C. Beet greens have a higher content of iron compared to spinach. They are also an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, sodium and iron. You can also add warm prune or apple juice with your breakfast along with a high-fiber cereal. Another great addition to your breakfast is equal amounts of bran, applesauce and prune juice. Take 1 to 2 tablespoons daily. Another very important cure is exercise. Whatever exercise you like to do, it is important that you do it daily. Try walking around a block in your neighborhood, or biking, or taking the stairs instead of an elevator where you shop. You will be amazed at how easily walking will increase the chances of a bowel movement. Walking massages all of the intestines causing them to work instead of sitting all day long.
