Reading this depression checklist could be your wake-up call...depression is more common that you may realize.

There is more human suffering from depression than any other single disease affecting mankind. Depression is second to schizophrenia in mental hospital admissions in the US. Just recently we learned that Robin Williams who committed suicide suffered from it, and more and more celebrities are admitting that they have it

I know what is feels like since I suffered from it too. It changes your life drastically.

Clinicians and researchers differ in their definition of depression. But there are  the cardinal signs of depression that has lasted  from ANCIENT TIMES TO THE PRESENT.

Classical Symptoms of Depression

At least today, they agree on these classical symptoms:

  • disturbed mood
  • self-castigations (such as not good enough)
  • wanting to die
  • physical symptoms such as agitation, loss of appetite and weight, sleeplessness
  • delusions of having committed unpardonable sins.                                                                                                                                               Depression

Depression can sneak up on your slowly or hit you like a ton of bricks. Either way, it's devastating and those around you cannot help

My mother who was a workaholic suffered from depression, and without realizing it, I learned her patterns of behavior.

This is often the case in families. We learn their behaviors, good or bad, but we don't realize it and we don't have to carry them.

Actually, my workaholic habits pushed me through my depressive episodes.

Depression is horrible! I know. There are times you want to end it, but that's not the answer. You are destined for great things. You just don't realize it, because your emotions and feelings, which are only one part of your being, have overwhelmed you.

I'm offering you a safe place where you can write about your feelings and emotions without the judgment of others. Here you can help yourself by writing about your experience, writing and talking aobut your experience and feelings can help you, and others in the process!

Depression Checklist

Here are some of the signs on my depression checklist:

  • you want to hide your head under the covers and sleep all the time, 
  • you don't want to do anything so you start shirking your responsibilities, if you're a teen you arrive late or start missing classes, and may stop doing your homework, somehow it's just not important any more
  • you over eat or lose interest in food altogether 
  • you feel sad all the time
  • you start avoiding your friends and lose friendships
  • you seem to always have a headache and other pains in your body
  • you have difficulties making decisions
  • you can't seem to remember things the way you used to
  • you start drinking alcohol, smoking or taking drugs and that's all you want to do
  • you think about dying because you just don't seem to have a reason for living anymore, you feel no one cares
  • you may be feeling an enormous amount of guilt, or anger

If you have three or more of these symptoms from my depression checklist for 2 weeks or longer, you are suffering from depression.

It's important for you to do something about this, for you because you are worth it.

I would really like you to write about your thoughts and feelings. This is the place for you to write about everything in your heart, you can share it with me and others. It's a safe place for letting your emotions out, to help yourself and others, because there are many just like you who may have similar feelings.

I really want to help you and this is the best way I know how because it worked for me. I did not want to talk to others when I felt down, I felt safe just writing in my journal. So think of this space as your journal.
