Hearing voices in your head

If you are hearing voices in your head, I understand and have first hand knowledge. I will tell you about my experiences.

Apparently, I had this phenomena which I call a 'spiritual gift' since I was a child, but my mother discouraged me from using it because of her fears of mental illness stigma. At that time, many doctors and most people believed that if you heard voices you were insane or had schizophrenia, and were placed in the mental ward of a hospital.

I took on my mother's fears and as a result I tried to run from hearing voices for most of my life. I did poorly in school because of the voices, I was having conversations with the voices in my head rather than concentrating on my lessons.

While I was in university, I thought I was. I can remember banging my head against the walls of my dorm. Then I started drinking with friends I'd met at university. This worked for awhile because the more I drank, the voices receded into the background. This is not a good idea and I do not recommend it to anyone.

As long as I was immersed in something, I wasn't aware of hearing voices, especially when I was playing the piano - it was my escape. I know now that if I had listened to them, (they were my spiritual guides advising me) I would have saved myself from many problems and situations in life. But I was head strong, and so I didn't listen to the voices. Besides, I felt that something was wrong with me.

Throughout my 30's and 40's I was involved in individual and various therapy groups because of hearing voices. I always felt different from the rest of society - that I had an affliction and that something was wrong with me. A psychiatrist, gave me prescriptions for deadening the voices. It was a good thing that I did not become addicted to the drugs, and am thankful to this day.

This period of taking various pills, drinking and partying lasted from the 60's till the end of the 80's. There was a period where I suffered from stomach problems, probably as a result of the drinking which led to changing my drinking and pill-taking habits.

All that time, I was always questioning - Why me? Why am I always hearing voices in my head?

My world came to an abrupt halt in '97, when my mother died. Read my experience with death of a parent. My whole world changed. But, since my mother knew of my ability of hearing voices, she was now talking to me from the other side - I had to listen.

I was lost without my mother. Even though we fought tooth and nail, she was a huge part of my life, a reality that I didn't face while she was alive, and now...my life felt empty.

Believe it or not, I was finally thankful that I could hear voices in my head, at least my mother's voice. Her voice gave me the strength to keep on going because not long afterward, my elder sister and my partner died within 3 months of each other.

I write about all the circumstances leading up to my spiritual awakening and how my life changed after the recent deaths

of my loved ones.

We all possess spiritual abilities such sensing, feeling, seeing and even hearing voices in your head. But many of us have forgotten what we have learned and are able to do throughout the centuries as there were witch hunts where those who could communicate with the spiritual realm were sentenced to death and burned.

The memories of those times are locked in our cellular memory and so now, many people have a subconscious fear of communicating in the spiritual realm with spirits.
