These High Blood Sugar Symptoms Can Be Very Dangerous

The high blood sugar symptoms are below. First, I want to explain what high blood sugar means. The medical term is hyperglycemia which is high levels of glucose (sugar) circulating in the blood plasma.

This means a high blood sugar level of 200 mg/dl or more. But you won't start to notice symptoms until you have higher levels such as 250–300 mg/dl or 15–20  mmol/l. You will find these figures when a nurse takes your blood testing your blood sugar level

If you have a  consistent range between 100 and 126 (American Diabetes Association guidelines), you are considered hyperglycemic, but on the other hand if you are above 126 mg/dl or 7 mmol/l, you most probably have diabetes. Chronic levels exceeding 125 mg/dl or 7 mmo1/1 can produce organ damage.

The normal blood sugar range for most people (fasting adults) is about 80 to 110 mg/dl or 4 to 6 mmol/l where 80 mg/dl is "optimal". If you have a blood sugar range below 70 mg/dl or 4 mmol/l, you are considered hypoglycemic or you have low blood sugar.

In fasting adults, blood plasma glucose should not exceed 126 mg/dL. If you have chronic higher levels of blood sugar, this can cause damage to your blood vessels and your organs, leading to the complications of diabetes.

High Blood Sugar Symptoms

The following symptoms may be associated with acute or chronic hyperglycemia:

  • frequent hunger, especially pronounced hunger
  • frequent thirst, especially excessive thirst
  • frequent urination
  • blurry vision
  • fatigue (sleepiness)
  • weight loss
  • wounds that don't heal quickly (cuts, scrapes, etc.)
  • dry mouth
  • dry or itchy skin
  • tingling in feet or heels
  • erectile dysfunction
  • Recurrent infections, external ear infections (swimmer's ear)
  • Cardiac arrhythmia
  • Stupor
  • Coma
  • Seizures
